Comparison
Gorgias is built for ecommerce and is very good at it. If you sell on Shopify, this comparison probably ends in their favour and we would rather say so on the first line.
This is the shortest comparison on the site, because for a large share of the people reading it the answer is Gorgias.
Gorgias is a helpdesk built around ecommerce. The order sits in the ticket. An agent can refund, cancel or re-ship without leaving the conversation. For a Shopify store handling "where is my order" at volume, that integration is the product, and a general-purpose desk with a Shopify connector is not the same thing.
Gorgias can put your data in an Australian region. What it cannot do is change whose law reaches the company holding it. The US CLOUD Act reaches providers under US jurisdiction regardless of where the data is stored — an Australian data centre operated by a US company is still reachable by a US order, and the order can carry a non-disclosure obligation, so you may not be told.
This is not a feature gap that a roadmap closes. It is a question of where the company is incorporated, and it is the one difference between us that cannot be matched without restructuring.
Under Australian Privacy Principle 8 the accountability stays with you: disclose personal information to an overseas recipient and you remain responsible for what they do with it. Using an Australian-owned processor removes the cross-border disclosure rather than managing it.
Each one carries the same section on where that product beats us. Pricing is here, and the sovereignty argument is here.
If you run an ecommerce store — particularly on Shopify — then probably yes. Gorgias puts order history, refunds and returns directly in the ticket, so an agent can issue a refund without leaving the conversation. That is a deep, specific integration we do not have and are not building. We would rather lose the comparison honestly than win it by omission.
When support is not mostly about orders. If your volume is account, billing, technical or service questions rather than 'where is my parcel', the ecommerce integrations are not doing the work and you are buying a specialist tool for a general problem. Also when Australian data sovereignty is a requirement you have to satisfy in writing.
We could not establish this from their public documentation. Their published material names Google Cloud as the infrastructure but does not specify customer data regions, and we found no stated Australian or Asia-Pacific residency option. That is a gap in what we could verify rather than a claim that no option exists — ask them directly and read their Data Processing Agreement. We would rather tell you what we do not know than guess in our own favour.
No. Gorgias is headquartered in San Francisco, California. As with every US-headquartered provider on these pages, hosting location and jurisdiction are separate questions.
Yes. Offboarding produces a complete archive of every collection in your workspace, messages included, and deletion is verifiable.
